how long have you been working on said tulpa?
Avatar
okay, just went to introductions, and saw you've been around about a month. it may take another month or so for you to hear her clearly, but yes, that's a good method for doing so. just stopping for a second in your mental process, and waiting to let them chatter back at you, it's a good idea
5:13 AM
maybe more than a second
5:13 AM
just, for lack of a better term, quiet yourself, and "listen"
5:16 AM
any other questions?

it might not work right away, but yes, absolutely do that

puts you in the right frame of mind

@OverSavior Try asking questions in normal narration and leaving a few seconds of nothing to see if they respond.
Avatar
Is it normal that a two-day-old tulpa picks out a form on her own?
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 6/29/2018 8:03 PM
Picking out a form is actually a good sign, I'd say
Avatar
I forced with her on a walk today, and got strong feminine vibes from her. I also "heard" a voice in my head, but I'm not 100% sure that's her or if it's me parroting... Like, she feels different enough from my own inner voices.
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 6/29/2018 8:04 PM
...oh, I thought by "form" you meant an image
8:04 PM
But a distinct "voice" is also a good sign
Avatar
Oh, yes, an image came, as well.
8:05 PM
Sorry about the two different paths I went on. :/
Avatar
Ruethus the Silver Sorceror 6/29/2018 8:05 PM
Ah, I see
8:05 PM
Sounds like it's managing to exert some individuality

Just go with it. Ignoring it won't get you anywhere. They can always change it later.

Thank you for the guidance~

Two days isn't enough time for a tulpa to be sentient.
Avatar
@LumenGaze The first time I sat down to create my tulpa, a form and a name immediately popped into my head out of nowhere. I definitely didn't select them, but I'm almost completely certain my less than 4 hour old tulpa didn't either. I'd be inclined to believe that what happened for both of us was the subconscious selecting one, not the tulpa choosing. (edited)
Avatar
not deliberately at least, I think accidental tulpas/walk-ins have become sentient in that time before
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:19 PM
That’s what I was thinking.
Avatar
Walk-ins aren't sentient until you force them, just like any other tulpa
8:21 PM
unless they come from something pre-existing
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:21 PM
Young tulpas can seem to have an independent agency too though.
Avatar
like a character you used to have
8:21 PM
sure, but it still takes time for them to develop and grow, they won't be fully formed immediately
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:21 PM
What do you mean by fully formed?
Avatar
like, fully sentient and functional, well-developed, that sort of thing
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:22 PM
They will certainly develop further like all of us. But tulpa can talk even if it's very young
8:22 PM
Jesus, nothing is fully formed immediately
Avatar
yeah, of course they can talk
8:22 PM
I don't think there's anything stopping a sentient tulpa from talking other than mindset
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:23 PM
I don't know if they have to be sentient to talk
8:23 PM
and to give us illusion of their independent agency
Avatar
Host personalities take years to develop past a completely nonfuctional state
Avatar
Thought Ava and Eva were Linkzelda's tulpas for a second, but that's Ada and Eva.
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:25 PM
And tulpa can behave like a character you know and doesn't need years of development to act like if they had mind of their own
8:26 PM
Oh whoa! Super similar
Avatar
Exactly as @Deleted User said. It's like the difference between adding structures to a building and creating one from scratch. Even original-personality tulpas still make use of some of the substructure that allows you to function.
8:36 PM
I uhh, I am more biased towards allowing the tulpa to your tools as a host instead of keeping the tulpa so separate to learn all of everything on their own (or just develop the ability to subconsciously use the host's toolsets)
Avatar
Deleted User 6/29/2018 8:36 PM
Ye, you don't have to reinvent the wheel as a tulpa
Avatar
I definitely ended up reinventing the wheel a bit, but it prepared me for the fun of fronting >>_<<
Avatar
this is why tulpas develop much faster than newborn humans, they already have access to a brain with all the required information in it
Avatar
Thanks for the information, everyone.

Rava was very quick to adjust to the more realistic art i got and hasnt fluctuated since if that counts

Anyone know any good beginner guides? Ive been looking through a lot but I want to see what helped other people. More can't hurt...

As far as I can tell, the most recent and praised guides are Piano's and Tulpa's.

Really appreciate it thanks!

Remember to apply critical thought to what you are reading as well, along with psychological knowledge that you have already - popularity is not necessarily a good measure of accuracy.

Will do!
6:14 PM
I've read a few guides and I'm still deciding if I should create a tulpa
6:15 PM
How likely is the possibility that our relationship deteriorates?
Avatar
Given you don't neglect your tulpa, not very likely
6:17 PM
Is this the correct channel for discussing the initial traits I'm planning for it?
Avatar
Sure
6:17 PM
personally I'd avoid giving them "traits"
6:18 PM
better to just teach them positive values and let their personality develop naturally
Avatar
That makes sense
Avatar
Assigning traits to a tulpa is kind of an outdated practice that doesn't really matter in the long run, given their personality will change and grow over time anyway
Avatar
What about their appearance?
Avatar
I think it's good to start off with something minimal or not too detailed and let them change it later
6:21 PM
an orb of light, a small animal, something simple
6:22 PM
avoid pre-established characters, as there's a chance you'll start seeing them as that character, which can be detrimental to the development of their own identity
Avatar
Thanks
6:24 PM
Will they be able to choose their own name, appearance and dreamscape?
6:24 PM
I want them to be as free as possible
Avatar
Yep, once they're sentient
6:25 PM
Choosing a name/form was usually the first thing each of us did once sentient
6:25 PM
or at least it was done pretty early on
Avatar
Would you recommend the channel you linked as a reliable guide?
Avatar
Well yeah, my systemmate was the one who wrote the scripts, lol
Avatar
Wait, are you a tulpa?
Avatar
yeah
6:28 PM
My host is named Lyra, and the other tulpas are Apollo, Piano, and Indigo
6:28 PM
Apollo wrote the videos, Piano wrote a couple guides
6:29 PM
Tewi linked Piano's above
Avatar
That's incredible
Avatar
eventually we'll write episode five for the video series :v

How does it feel to share a body?
Avatar
I dunno, I'm pretty used to it by now
6:32 PM
just feels normal
Avatar
If you wanted, could you function 24/7 by switching in turns?
Avatar
no, the body still requires sleep
6:34 PM
What do you do when you aren't controlling the body?
Avatar
I go inactive
6:34 PM
and I don't come back unless somebody thinks about me, or something calls my attention
Avatar
How did it feel to gain consciousness?
6:38 PM
I'm sorry if I make a lot of questions, I'm very cur3
6:38 PM
Curious

You mean when I was first created?
